Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County offers a delightful mix of award-winning vineyards.

Inside Perspective

Homes in Sonoma Valley typically include the areas of Glen Ellen, Kenwood, Boyes Hot Springs and the town of Sonoma. There are a delightful mix of residences within the confines of small towns as well as expansive rural swaths of award-winning vineyards and oak-studded pastures. The small city of Sonoma – with a population approaching 12,000 - hosts a historic plaza and wine-tasting rooms, while also being the epicenter of the locavore food movement. Local farmers' markets and fruit stands throughout the valley showcase the regions bounty.

Homes for sale in Sonoma will typically range from as low as $400,000 to upwards of $10 million – the higher-end typically being reserved for significant estates with vineyards and acreage - with the median currently hovering around $815,000. Real estate for sale on Sonoma’s tony Eastside – even with lots under one-half acre – can easily see recurring sales in the $2-4 million range for special homes with coveted walk-to-the Plaza convenience.

Studded with trees and surrounded by buildings nearly 200 years old, the plaza was once an outpost of the Mexican government and later at the center of California’s fight for independence. Sonoma, in fact, was the first capital of the short-lived Bear Flag Republic. Today, Sonoma and the communities surrounding it are famous for the world-class wines that are produced here. The Sonoma Valley is the closest wine region to San Francisco, just 45 miles away.
